It’s kind of crazy. I’ve been working from home for almost 6 years now. This site is called “Work at Home for Moms.” But when asked, I reflexively say I’m a stay at home mom. I don’t know why I do this, and suppose it’s not that important of a designation anyway. I think the deeper point is, did it really take me almost 6 years to truly, honestly feel that what I’ve been doing is real?

I constantly preach on the importance of treating your business like a business. You’ve got to be your own boss and keep on top of everything.

Part of me wonders if it’s a mom thing to shy away from the “business” title in real life though. Am I the only one? I’m always there to pick the kids up from school and drop them off. I’m around for all the sniffles and scraped knees.

I wonder if it’s that I will always identify with the stay at home mom mindset more than I do the “business” mindset. Honestly, I’d write for pleasure if we didn’t need the income but I wouldn’t bust my butt like I do now trying to grow the business. I’d focus even more on being a mommy.

What do you think? Are you a SAHM, a WAHM, or both? What do you call yourself when the moms at the pickup line as you what you do?
